It was a fun-filled evening at the Manatee Performing Arts Center which included a live and silent auction, dueling pianos and a roast of Carl Weeks.

More Mauldin & Jenkins employees are taking the time the invest in young students and teaching them the importance of financial stability and how to achieve it.
Kyle Nichols volunteered to speak with 8th and 6th graders from Merry Acres Middle School in Albany, GA, Thursday, November 21. He covered similar topics as Scott and Adam including basic budgeting, saving, investing and other financial knowledge.
“I really enjoyed the opportunity to provide these students with useful information that I don’t think is typically covered in school. Even though they won’t need these skills for a few more years, just getting them to think about budgeting and saving early could be a big step towards financial stability”– Kyle Nichols

In the past two weeks, members of the USF Sarasota-Manatee Accounting Society have seen alot of the M&J team.
On the evening of November 13th, Mauldin & Jenkins hosted the USF Sarasota-Manatee Accounting Society. Students toured the Bradenton office where they got a taste of what it’s like to work in a public accounting environment. They mingled with M&J employees, enjoyed appetizers, and then divided into groups where they listened to our accounting experts discuss the industry as a whole, as well as the culture here at M&J.
Next, it was our turn to visit the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus with our exhibit at the Accounting Society Meet and Greet held on November 22nd from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. We met many talented students whom we’re certain will attain much success in their accounting careers.
Mauldin & Jenkins attends many college career fairs throughout the Southeast. Think you have what it takes to join our growing team? Visit our Career Page to learn more and submit your resume.

A few hours were spent out of the office on November 13th in the Fete Ballroom at the Polo Grill where the Mauldin & Jenkins team enjoyed a delicious “Thanksgiving-esque” meal including turkey and gravy, sweet potato casserole, stuffing, green beans, and spiced pumpkin soufflé (do we have your mouth watering for Turkey Day yet?) — All because of two dedicated M&J employees.
Active members of the Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance (LWRBA), Partner Alison Wester and Director Dianne Kopczynski were both nominated for a prestigious “Sandie” award. “The Sandies” honor LWRBA members who demonstrate the highest level of professionalism, character, and community involvement. Alison was nominated for the “Rising Star” award, while Dianne was nominated for the “Networking Queen” award. Dianne also presented the award to the winner of the “Networking King” category. Although they didn’t take home the Sandie for their respective categories, they’re still winners in our book! Congratulations Alison and Dianne on your nominations.

On November 8th, our Bradenton camping enthusiasts hit the road in their RV’s toward the Royal Coachman RV Resort in Nokomis, FL where they spent a couple days with Mother Nature. They did exactly what you’re supposed to do while camping; relax, chat around the campfire, EAT (alot of good food from what we heard), roast s’mores and most importantly enjoy each other’s company. They also hiked and biked a bit, although rumor has it Jeff King was the only one who braved the 10-mile long Legacy Bike Trail!
The M&J team had such a good time, they’re already looking forward to the 2nd Annual Camping Rally. And, next year they’re packing up the kayaks to explore Dona Bay. Camping…it doesn’t get much better. If only our Bradenton crew could experience true camping weather like our friends in Atlanta, Macon, Albany, Birmingham and Chattanooga.

Their piggy banks, that is!
On November 19, Scott Ezzell and Adam Blakely participated in the Financial Literacy Student Outreach event sponsored by The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA). Scott and Adam volunteered to share a little of their expertise with Mrs. Karen Rackley’s 8th grade class at Howard Middle School in Macon, GA. They covered important financial literacy knowledge, including budgeting and fiscal responsibility, to help teach kids the importance of financial stability. Scott and Adam were able to make the topics a little more fun than they sound, and really got the students involved and engaged! By the end of the session, students were calling for an encore and ready to feed their piggy banks!

Noticed a few strangers with bright and shining faces full of ambition? No need to call security, those are just a few of Mauldin & Jenkins’ newest recruits.
A big welcome to a few of our newest employees: Ashley Smith, Holly Littlefield, Justin Elliot and Sydney Stewart. Check back in to learn more about each new employee. First up:
Ashley Smith is a Staff I Accountant at the Atlanta office. She earned a Bachelor’s in Music from Augusta State University, but after deciding teaching music was not her niche, switched to construction accounting for 12 years. Earlier this year, Ashley received her Master’s in Accounting at Southern Polytechnic State University.
Until recently, Ashley’s only hobby was studying for the CPA exam, but now that she is FREE, she is back to the playing the piano. Fun fact: Ashley is a 5th generation Chopin student (He’s a pretty famous composer of piano music…you can Google him).
An Ohio Buckeye by association, she can be found cheering for her husband’s Alma mater most Saturday afternoons. She may be a fan of Urban Meyer, but at least she’s not a Gator fan…
Holly Littlefield, a Manatee County native, joined the Bradenton office November 2013 as a Marketing/HR Coordinator where she will coordinate and attend local and CPE events, and is responsible for various human resource job roles.
She received her Bachelor’s in Business Management with a Minor in Marketing from the University of South Florida in 2006. Holly has held Marketing positions with two other local companies; Teltronics Inc., a manufacturer of telecommunication systems (now MedTel Services) and Harmar LLC, a manufacturer of mobility and home accessibility lift products.
When she’s not diligently at work, Holly enjoys a pickup game of softball or golf, getting her groove on at concerts, belting out her favorite karaoke tunes, and whipping up a cooking frenzy in the kitchen!
She’s gung-ho and ready to take on whatever challenges this position may throw her way, and is excited to see Mauldin & Jenkins grow in her local community.

The Atlanta Braves announced Monday morning they’re moving from Turner Field to a new stadium in Cobb County for the 2017 season.
Just a hop, skip and a jump away from the Mauldin & Jenkins central office, we can’t wait for baseball season to get started! Who knows? Might become a M&J after work tradition…

Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC welcomed Bill Carver, a representative of United Way of Greater Atlanta, to the central office this past Friday for a campaign kick-off presentation and breakfast. The United Way’s mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good. United Way focuses on three main stepping stones to help the community strengthen and grow: Education, Health, and Income.
- Improve education, and cut the number of high school dropouts — 1.2 million students, every year — in half.
- Help people achieve financial stability, and get 1.9 million working families — half the number of lower-income families who are financially unstable — on the road to economic independence.
- Promote healthy lives, and increase by one-third the number of youth and adults who are healthy and avoid risky behaviors.
United Way’s contribution to the community is made successful through the generosity of businesses and individuals willing to give back to those in need. For more information about United Way and how you can help support our local community, visit unitedwayatlanta.org.
