Miller Edwards is a Partner, and the Partner responsible for the Firm’s governmental practice, and the Partner In-Charge of the Macon and Savannah offices. He is a past multi-term member of Mauldin & Jenkins’ Executive Committee, and current member of the Mauldin & Jenkins’ Assurance (Audit & Accounting) Committee as well as the Forward and Strategic Thinking (FAST) Committee.
Miller received his BBA with dual majors in Accounting and Risk Management & Insurance from the University of Georgia in 1986, and has been with the firm since graduation. Miller spends 100% of his time serving the governmental sector. Miller serves both large and small governmental units operating as cities, counties, school districts, state entities, and special-purpose entities, and he currently serves numerous governmental clients in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida. In the past three (3) years alone, Miller has served over 125 governmental entities. Services to governmental units include: financial and compliance audits; agreed-upon procedures; compilations and reviews; general obligation and revenue bond comfort and consent procedures; forensic audits; performance audits; and general consulting services.
Miller has significant teaching experience with various professional organizations and governmental trade associations. From 2002 to 2017, Miller taught for the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government (CVIOG) on an annual basis by providing continuing education on the subjects of governmental accounting and financial reporting to local and state government officials. During 2013, and on behalf of the CVIOG, Miller hosted a delegation of officials from the National Audit Office of the Peoples Republic of China for which he provided governmental audit and accounting instruction. Miller also has experience in providing governmental audit and accounting updates via webcasts for Mauldin & Jenkins and several other governmental financial trade organizations. Miller has been recognized on several occasions by the Georgia Government Finance Officers Association (GGFOA) for outstanding service to that organization as well as the governmental industry as a whole.
Miller is a certified public accountant with licenses in several states, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Miller is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys canoeing, motor-boating, sports, walking, hiking, and biking. He currently resides in Macon, Georgia, and has two children, son, Miller, and daughter, Carson.
