Charlotte Way, JD, LLM, CPA, serves as the firm’s Tax Counsel. In addition to receiving a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Louisiana and a Doctorate of Law from the University of Virginia School of Law, she also received a Masters in Taxation Law from New York University School of Law.

Charlotte began her career in the Tax department of Norton Rose Fulbright, a global law firm providing business law services. She then originally joined Mauldin & Jenkins in 1993 as Tax Counsel.

Charlotte rejoined Mauldin & Jenkins in 2022 following a career in private practice specializing in accounting and tax law with a focus on small business tax preparation and planning, estate planning, and tax controversy work.

Charlotte has extensive experience and success in helping clients manage tax issues and disputes, including IRS and state penalty and collection notices; penalty abatement requests; field and correspondence audit representation; post-audit issue resolution, including representation at appeals, requests for supervisor conferences, and fast-track settlements; Offer In Compromise – Doubt as to Liability; assistance with Taxpayer Advocate Services; research and risk assessment of tax positions before filing a tax return, and other tax compliance issues.

Her expertise also includes shortening the exam process by resolving tax issues at the lowest level when possible, representing clients in examinations, audits, and appeals, working with supervisors and managers to resolve tax issues, representing clients before the U.S. Treasury and researching to implement tax saving strategies available to clients.

Charlotte is a Certified Public Accountant in Georgia and a Licensed Attorney in both Georgia and Texas. She is a member of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Georgia State Bar, the Texas State Bar, and the Macon Bar Association.
